BBCC Men Earn Two Wins at Skagit Valley Tournament, Fall Short in Finale

The Big Bend Community College men's basketball team hit the road this past weekend, traveling to Mount Vernon, Washington to compete in the annual Skagit Valley Tournament. The Vikings showcased both resilience and offensive firepower, earning two wins before falling to the undefeated host in the final contest.

Big Bend opened the weekend against Whatcom Community College and immediately demonstrated its ability to rally. Despite trailing by six at halftime, the Vikings erupted offensively in the second half, outscoring Whatcom 47–31 to secure a 76–66 comeback victory. It was a balanced effort across the board, with Ori Mizrahi, Jakari Singleton, and Sugar Eaton all finishing in double figures, while several others came close to joining them.

The momentum carried into Game Two, where Big Bend delivered one of its strongest offensive showings of the young season. Facing Olympic College, the Vikings poured in a season-high 65 first-half points, pushing the tempo early and setting the tone in a dominant win. Though BBCC eased off slightly late, the margin was never threatened as the Vikings coasted to a 100–70 victory.

Six players reached double-digit scoring—Lorenzo Contreras, Singleton, Eaton, Mizrahi, and Mahmoud Ibrahim among them—with Contreras leading the floor game by dishing out eight assists. The performance marked Big Bend's highest scoring output of the weekend and one of its most complete efforts.

Looking to complete the sweep, BBCC closed the tournament against host Skagit Valley, who entered undefeated. Big Bend struggled offensively in the first half, heading into the locker room down 14 and unable to find a rhythm against Skagit's physical defensive presence. The Vikings attempted another second-half push but could not replicate their earlier comebacks, falling 77–57.

Despite the loss, several Vikings stood out. Sugar Eaton capped his impressive weekend with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Ori Mizrahi and Dominik Wojna both came close to posting double-double performances.

The Vikings now prepare for another challenging road trip as they head to the North Idaho Invitational. BBCC will open play Friday against Williston State before matching up with Miles City Community College on Saturday, aiming to regroup and build on a strong two-win showing.
