Vikings Dropped in Twin Bill as Season Nears End
The 2026 season continued to wind down for the Big Bend Community College Vikings as they traveled to face the Columbia Basin College Hawks in what marked their final road series of the year after recently being eliminated from postseason contention.
Sophomore right-hander Chase Fleming earned the start in what was his final outing as a Viking and capped off his strong season with another quality performance. Fleming tossed 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs while striking out five before turning things over to the bullpen.
BBCC battled throughout the opener and entered the bottom of the ninth inning tied at three, but a costly leadoff error once again came back to haunt the Vikings. The Hawks capitalized on the mistake and delivered a walk-off victory, defeating BBCC 4-3.
Offensively, Jaime Ruelas paced the Vikings with two hits, while Ricardo Leon Guerrero turned in a productive day at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks.
Game two proved to be much more difficult for the Vikings as Columbia Basin jumped out early and never looked back. BBCC found itself trailing 6-1 after three innings, and the deficit only continued to grow as the Hawks rolled to a 12-2 victory in eight innings.
The Vikings managed seven hits in the loss, collecting contributions from Nicholas Kemker, AJ Glenn, Tyler Langer, Alex Hirai, Isaiah Aliksa, Ryley Doig and Ricardo Leon Guerrero. Langer highlighted the effort with a solo home run.
Pitching struggles once again hurt the Vikings, as BBCC issued eight walks in the contest, allowing the Hawks to continually apply pressure and ultimately put the game out of reach.
The Vikings now turn their attention to the final two games of the season this Saturday when they return home to host the Hawks for Sophomore Day and officially close out the 2026 campaign.
