Vikings Split with Spokane Falls Behind Strong Game One Effort
Coming off a difficult series against Wenatchee Valley College, the Big Bend Vikings returned home on Wednesday, April 1st, looking to get back on track against Spokane Falls Community College—and did just enough to earn a split on the day.
Spokane Falls struck first, plating a run in the opening inning and adding another in the fourth to take a 2–0 lead as the Vikings' offense struggled to find its rhythm early. That changed in the sixth inning when Jaime Ruelas sparked the lineup with a two-out single and came all the way around to score, putting BBCC on the board.
The Vikings carried that momentum into the seventh, where they evened things up at two apiece. With two outs, Isaiah Aliksa delivered a clutch double and later scored on a Spokane Falls error, tying the game and shifting the energy in Big Bend's favor.
BBCC continued to apply pressure, scoring for the third straight inning in the eighth. Ruelas once again ignited the rally with a leadoff hit, and Ricardo Leon Guerrero and Ryley Doig followed with key at-bats to bring home two runs, giving the Vikings a 4–2 advantage heading into the final frame.
On the mound, Chase Fleming was dominant, tossing eight innings of two-run baseball while striking out seven and issuing no walks in another standout performance. In the ninth, Guerrero came in to close things out. Despite surrendering back-to-back hits and a run to open the inning, he settled in and shut the door to secure a 4–3 victory.
Game two, however, told a different story.
The Vikings struggled defensively, committing four errors, while the offense managed just two hits in an 8–0 loss. Although BBCC's pitching staff was solid at times, only three of the eight runs allowed were earned, as defensive miscues proved costly throughout the contest.
With the split, the Vikings now turn their attention to the road as they prepare to travel to Spokane Falls Community College this Saturday to wrap up the four-game series.
