Big Bend volleyball gave the home crowd a scare on Friday night at the Peter DeVries Center dropping the first two sets to Blue Mountain before pulling themselves up by the bootstraps and winning the final three sets and earning its third Northwest Athletic Conference victory.

The blue and green were coming off of a 3-0 loss to Spokane earlier in the week, and Head Coach Michael De Hoog thinks that some of that energy may have carried over into Friday night.

"We played as bad as we have all season at Spokane and I think we may have been feeling some of the residual effects of that," De Hoog said. "We came out and it was like we were just waiting to see how the match was goni to go instead of dictating how it was going to go."

The Vikings (13-7 overall, 3-2 NWAC) showed some moxie after dropping the first two sets and finished with 56 total kills and 53 digs.

Brynn McKnight led BBCC offensively with 16 kills with Sadie Nielsen adding 11, and Payson Griner 10. Defensively, Kiana Miller had 17 digs with Ashlee Adams adding 15 and McKnight recording 9.

After the sluggish start, Martina Wilder had the offense working dishing out 30 assists with Madison Shrope handing out 12.

"I could see a change in our demeanor, a change in our body language after losing those first two sets," De Hoog added. "Yes, Blue (Mountain) is a good team, but we are fully capable of beating them and we just started being intentional about what we were doing and were able to get the win."

The Lady Vikings will have a full week to prepare for their next NWAC East Region on Saturday at home when they host Treasure Valley. The Chukars are currently 3-1 in the East Region and 13-9 overall and will face Columbia Basin on Friday night before heading to the Big Bend Campus on Saturday to face the Vikings.
