YAKIMA — Big Bend volleyball defeated Yakima Valley in five sets on Wednesday night to move to 11-5, and 1-1 in conference.
The Vikings took the game after letting the Yaks come back to tie the match 2-2, with scores of 25-16, 25-18, 17-25, 26-28, 15-9. Yakima Valley jumped out ahead in the first set early, before Big Bend was able to come back and take command. The Vikings pulled away midway through the first set and held on to take the first set by a nine-point margin.
Set two went back and forth early on, with the lead changing hands multiple times before Big Bend gained a big lead halfway through. The Vikings held off the Yaks again to take a 2-0 set lead. Big Bend came out ahead early in the third set, but Yakima Valley came back as the lead, again, went back and forth for most of the set. The Yaks pulled away late to stay alive, moving to 2-1.
Yakima jumped out to a big lead early in set four, scoring seven unanswered to start. Big Bend fought back throughout, tying the score at 24-24. The Yaks were resilient, however, holding on to force the decisive fifth set.
