Vikings Face Nationally Ranked Opponent
The Big Bend Community College Men's Wrestling team hosted the Big Bend Invitational this past weekend, welcoming one of the toughest opponents in the country, the #3 ranked Clackamas Community College. The event proved to be a demanding challenge, but the Vikings showcased resilience and determination, capped by a standout performance from heavyweight wrestler Hunter Tibodeau.
Tibodeau secured a pivotal win to close out the tournament, improving his national ranking to 4th in the heavyweight division. His performance was a bright spot for the Vikings and a testament to his dedication on the mat.
Head Coach Daviaire Dickerson reflected on the weekend, emphasizing the importance of preparation and high-level competition. "This week's focus was being intentional with our wrestling and wrestling at a high intensity," said Dickerson. "With hosting the #3 ranked team in the nation, it would come down to the small details. As a team, it is great to get competition like this. It is important to be battle-tested before the postseason."
The Vikings now turn their attention to their upcoming schedule. They will travel to Eastern Oregon on Saturday, the 25th, before wrapping up the regular season at home on Thursday, the 30th, against North Idaho College.
As the postseason approaches, BBCC continues to sharpen its skills, building momentum and confidence with each competition.
