Lady Vikings Get Back on Track With Road Win at Yakima Valley

Coming off just their second loss of the season, the Lady Vikings looked to respond as they traveled to Yakima Valley College on Wednesday, January 21. BBCC did exactly that, putting together a complete performance to earn an 87–59 conference victory.

The Lady Vikes got off to a strong start, holding an 18–15 edge after the opening quarter. Momentum swung fully in Big Bend's favor during the second frame, as they pulled away offensively and went into halftime with a commanding 49–31 lead.

Big Bend maintained control throughout the second half, continuing to execute on both ends of the floor and never allowing Yakima Valley to mount a serious comeback. The win moves the Lady Vikings to 4–1 in conference play.

A balanced offensive attack proved to be the difference, as six Lady Vikings reached double figures. Oakley Homer led the way with 21 points on 6-of-15 shooting while also pulling down eight rebounds. Brooke Warren, Kaliyah Evans, Oaklie Jackman, Ashlynn Purcell, and Claire Cox all joined Homer in double-digit scoring efforts.

As a team, BBCC shot 42 percent from the field and was especially efficient at the free-throw line, knocking down 23 of 27 attempts for an impressive 85 percent from the charity stripe.

The Lady Vikings will look to keep the momentum rolling as they return home to host Blue Mountain Community College this Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the DeVries Activity Center.
