Just hours after being ranked the No. 2 team in the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) in the latest Coaches Poll, the Lady Vikings were on the road to Pasco to face East Region opponent Columbia Basin College. The Big Bend women didn't disappoint pulling away late in the fourth quarter and securing an 84-73 victory.
The Lady Vikes' (14-2, 3-0) Hannah Wilson (FR; Rexburg, ID) came up huge offensively in the win scoring 32 points on 14-of-17 shooting from the field. She also pulled down 8 boards, had a steal, and connected on her only 3-point attempt. Big Bend also got solid performances from Sophomore guard Miranda Johnson (Salt Lake City, UT) and freshman Kelsey Sorenson (Price, UT) who each scored 12 points with Sorenson adding 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Sophomore Leah Dougherty (Rexburg, ID) also finished in double figures with 10 points (3 rebounds, 5 assists) and freshman Abby Broadbent (Plain City, UT) contributed 8 points off the bench in the winning effort.
The game was tight entering the fourth quarter as the Lady Vikes trailed by a point, however they were able to outscore the lady Hawks 25 to 13 in the final frame to lock down the win.
Big Bend shot 54% from the field which included 7-of-19 effort from behind the 3-point line. They came up big on the boards outrebounding CBC by a 46 to 29 margin which led to 17 second-chance buckets. The BBCC defense also forced 14 Lady Hawk turnovers.
The Lady Vikes will try to stay perfect in the NWAC East Region on Saturday when they host rival Yakima Valley at the Peter DeVries Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
