The Big Bend Lady Vikings continued conference play this past weekend, hosting a pair of Oregon programs, beginning with Blue Mountain Community College. It proved to be a challenging stretch, as the Vikings were unable to find their rhythm across four games.
Game one against Blue Mountain set the tone early, as the Timberwolves came out swinging. The Vikings were overwhelmed in a 16–1 defeat, with Blue Mountain launching six home runs over six innings. Offensively, Big Bend was held quiet, managing just three hits in the contest.
Hoping to bounce back in game two, the Lady Vikings again ran into trouble generating offense. Big Bend collected five hits but couldn't keep pace, dropping their second game of the day. Taya Riner led the effort at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Peyton Trautman provided a highlight with a two-run home run. However, the long ball continued to haunt the Vikings, as they surrendered a combined 10 home runs on the day.
The following day brought another test, as the Vikings hosted Treasure Valley Community College. In game one, Big Bend showed signs of life, building a 6–3 lead heading into the sixth inning. But the momentum quickly shifted, as Treasure Valley erupted for seven runs in the sixth and added three more in the seventh to hand the Vikings a 13–6 loss. Riner stayed hot, going 3-for-4, while Trautman delivered a strong performance with two home runs and three RBIs.
Looking to avoid a weekend sweep, the Lady Vikings entered the final game with determination. Unfortunately, Treasure Valley's offense proved relentless, scoring in every inning en route to a 17–3 victory. Riner continued her consistent play with two more hits, and Shanoah Spears added a bright spot by going yard for the second consecutive game.
Despite the tough results, the Lady Vikings will look to regroup as they hit the road this coming weekend. Big Bend is set to face Columbia Basin College on Friday before traveling to Walla Walla to take on the Warriors, with hopes of turning things around in conference play.
