Viking softball adds four wins over the weekend; poised for a strong playoff run.

Big Bend Softball currently sits in second place in the Northwest Athletic Conference East Region — a comfortable view that has them looking poised to make a deep run into the postseason. The Vikings are riding a positive wave heading into the final series of the regular season having won 5 straight. 


Big Bend 7, Columbia Basin 2

Bailey Christensen pitched a complete-game gem to open up BBCC's series with Columbia Basin giving up just 3 hits and striking out 4. It was Christensen's 16th win of the season.

Offensively for Big Bend, Maya Saneishi had 3 hits, Taryn Mathews 2 hits and 2 RBIs, and Hanna Reid drove in 2 runs with her 8th home run of the season.

Big Bend 5, Columbia Basin 4

The Vikings earned their Game 2 win in dramatic fashion with freshman Dakota Egbert crushing a seventh-inning walk-off home run in the second game to secure the 5-4 win.

Freshman pitcher Alyssa Ray picked up her 12th win of the season with a complete-game effort striking out 3 hitters and scattering 7 hits over the duration. 

Offensively for the Vikings, Aubree Barney (double, RBI) and Riley Newbold (2 RBIs) each had a pair of hits


The Vikings made quick work of Yakima Valley Saturday afternoon sweeping the struggling Yaks in two, inning-shortened games.

Big Bend 14, Yakima 6

Bailey Christensen would pick up her 17th win of the season with a little help from Megan Porter who mopped things up in relief throwing the final inning. Christensen (17-5) is currently tied for 3rd in wins in all of the NWAC.

Offensively, Lynsey Valverde (2 RBIs) would hit her 14th home run of the season with Hanna Reid (2 doubles) adding 3 hits and 2 RBIs. Aubree Barney (double), Riley Newbold (double, 2 RBIs), and Taryn Mathews (triple, 4 RBIs) would each have 2-hit efforts.

Big Bend 12, Yakima 4

Big Fly was the theme of Game 2 with the Vikings crushing 5 home runs in an offensive show of power. Hanna Reid, Riley Newbold, Dakota Egbert and Aubree Barney (2) were responsible for power at the plate. 

Alyssa Ray would earn her 13th win of the season in the weekend finale giving up just 4 hits over 4 innings of work. She would give way to Megan Porter who pitched the 5th inning to close things out.

Big Bend Softball will close out its regular season on Saturday hosting Wenatchee Valley on Sophomore Day. The doubleheader is scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m.
