Big Bend faced a formidable challenge Wednesday on the road against the Northwest Athletic Conference's top-ranked team (RPI) North Idaho. The Viking's lost the opener, 13-5, in 5 innings but returned the favor in Game 2 defeating NIC 12-4.

With the NWAC East Region split, BBCC improves to 11-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

The Vikings got a taste of the power in the North Idaho lineup in Game 1 as the Cardinals blasted 5 home runs en route to the 5-inning win. Sophomore pitcher Bailey Christensen (5-1) took her first loss of the season giving up 11 hits and issuing 2 walks.

Offensively Big bend got a pair of home runs themselves from Aubree Barney and Riley Newbold but it wasn't enough to stay in the game.

Lynsey Valverde paved the way going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double, a home run, and 3 RBIs while scoring 3 runs herself. Maya Saneishi finished 2-for-2 and scored 3 runs, and Newbold added 3 RBIs with an inside-the-park home run. Dakota Egbert also contributed with a 3-RBI triple.triple.

BBCC got a great effort from starting pitcher Alyssa Ray who worked all 5 innings scattering 8 hits on the way to her (3-1) third win of the season.

The No. 5 Vikings (RPI and Coach's Poll) will continue their travels on Friday and Saturday with back-to-back doubleheaders on the road at Columbia Basin College and Yakima Valley.
