Big Bend softball improved to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in the Northwest Athletic Conference East Region on Monday sweeping Treasure Valley after shuffling-up their schedule to accommodate wet conditions in Ontario, OR. After Sunday's game was postponed, both teams were forced to travel to Caldwell, ID to play on the field at the College of Idaho in lieu of falling any further behind in the conference schedule.
The Big Bend road warriors have yet to play a game on their home field, but if they continue on the hot streak they are currently on they may not want to.
Big Bend 12, Treasure Valley 7
In the early game, Big Bend pitcher Bailey Christensen improved to 5-0 on the season striking out six Treasure Valley hitters in 7 innings of work.
Offensively, the Vikings were led by sophomore Aubree Barney who finished 3-for-4 at the plate with 7 RBIs including a grand slam. Sophomore Lynsey Valverde also stood tall at the plate going 3-for-4 with 3 doubles. Both ladies also each scored 4 runs.
Big Bend 15, Treasure Valley 2
Freshman Mayda Rieflin took the mound in Game 2 and picked up the win improving her season record to 2-1. She worked 3 innings and struck out 3 hitters but also issued 5 walks. She was relieved by freshman Alyssa Ray who worked 2 innings and struck out 1 hitter while picking up the save.
Freshman Riley Newbold took the big hack in the afternoon game crushing a grand slam (4 RBIs) of her own in a 1-for-2 effort at the plate while scoring 3 runs. Valverde and freshmen Hanna Reid and Taryn Mathews all picked up a pair of hits with Mathews and Valverde each recording doubles.
Big Bend will head back out on the road traveling to Couer d'Alene Wednesday to take on North Idaho College. Games are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. and will be broadcast on the NIC Athletics YouTube page HERE.
