After a monster showing at the plate during her last four games, Lynsey Valverde, Big Bend's Freshman shortstop, was named the Northwest Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week!

Valverde, from Bear River High School in Tremonton, UT., filled the stat sheet for the Vikings last week while leading BBCC to four consecutive wins over Columbia Basin and Yakima Valley. In 16 plate appearances, she racked-up 11 hits (two walks) for a .688 batting average. The explosion also included 3 home runs and 16 RBIs. Valverde also scored 9 runs for the Vikings.

Valverde leads the NWAC in home runs with 15 and RBIs with 59.

"We knew this fall Lynsey was a special talent and she has been living up to the expectations all year," said Vikings head coach Michael Garoutte. "Last week was especially amazing, she happened to be somewhat sick and did not feel well all weekend.  It was awesome to see her in the zone and helping her teammates out.  She continues to grow and mature each week and it is exciting to watch."

The Lady Vikings and Valverde are back in action on Sunday afternoon at home against Wenatchee Valley.
