The Big Bend men's basketball team hosted the Big Bend Crossover this past weekend, marking the Vikings' first home action of the season. BBCC welcomed Southwest Oregon, Skagit Valley, and Centralia Community College over a three-day stretch as they continued to prepare for the start of conference play.
Big Bend opened the weekend against Southwest Oregon and came out strong, carrying a 32–25 lead into halftime. However, the second half proved to be costly, as the Vikings struggled to find consistency on the offensive end and ultimately fell 73–67. BBCC shot 39 percent from the floor in the loss. Jakari Singleton led all scorers for the Vikings with 19 points on an efficient 7-of-11 shooting performance, while Tainui Tairoa chipped in 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
On day two, the Vikings faced a tough Skagit Valley squad and found themselves in an early hole. BBCC trailed 46–25 at the break, and the 21-point halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the Vikings dropped an 82–61 decision. Dominik Wojna paced Big Bend with 19 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
Looking to end the weekend on a positive note, the Vikings bounced back in the finale against Centralia Community College. BBCC built a 16-point halftime advantage and maintained control in the second half, securing a 78–67 victory over the Trailblazers. Wojna once again led the way, scoring 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds. Tairoa added a strong supporting effort with 19 points in the win.
With conference play approaching, the Vikings will look to build momentum in a tune-up game against Elite Prep Post Grad on January 3rd. BBCC will then open conference play on the road, traveling to Wenatchee to take on Wenatchee Valley on January 7th.
