Runnin' Vikes hammer the competition at Whatcom Tournament

The Runnin' Vikes were a perfect 3-0 over the weekend improving their preseason record to 10-1 after finishing undefeated at the Whatcom Community College Crossover Tournament. 


Big Bend 98, Highline 68

The Vikings doubled-up Highline early (20-10) when Joey Andrews (SO; Riverton, UT) knocked down a 3-pointer just six minutes into the first half and jumped out to a 25-point halftime lead en route to a blowout win in the opening game of the tournament.

Andrews would finish the game leading all scorers with 24 points while adding 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and shooting 9-of-13 from the field. Sophomore Miles Brown (SO; Sandy, Oregon) wasn't far behind dropping 22 points and pulling down 8 rebounds and also collecting a pair of steals.

Kobe Huerta (SO; Covington, WA) and Seraphin Decker (SO; Las Vegas, NV) finished with 15 and 16 points respectively with Decker adding 8 boards, 6 assists, and a steal.


Big Bend 97, Whatcom 87

On Saturday, the Runnin' Vikes did nothing to improve the Holiday cheer at Pavillion Gym defeating Whatcom in front of the home crowd.

But the Orca's didn't go down quietly. Down by 10 points (87-77) with two minutes to play Big Bend persevered through eight fouls in the final 120 seconds while knocking down 10-of-14 free throws and securing the win.

Andrews had another big game for BBCC notching the double-double scoring 27 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. The sophomore was 8-of-14 from the field (including 5-of-7 from 3-point) with 3 assists, 3 steals, and a blocked shot.

Huerta led all scorers with 28 points (5 boards, 2 assists) with Decker adding 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.


Big Bend 82, Clark 72

The Runnin' Vikes led by as much as 24 points in the second half (70-46) before pulling back the reins during their third win of the weekend Sunday afternoon.

A picture of consistency, Huerta had another strong performance for the Vikings scoring 31 points and shooting 50 percent from the field (11-of-22 and 4-of-7 from 3-point). Brown finished the game with a double-double netting 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds and Andrews finished his weekend 13 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds.

Big Bend is getting close to beginning Northwest Athletic Conference East Region play. The Runnin' Vikes will finish up their preseason after the Holiday Break welcoming the BBCC Alumni Squad to the Peter DeVries Center on December 29th before welcoming top-ranked North Idaho to the BBCC campus January 2nd to open NWAC East play.
