BBCC Lose 3 of 4 Against Columbia Basin College, Looks Ahead to Blue Mountain

Coming off a tough opening day of conference play, where they dropped both games against Columbia Basin College on the road, Big Bend Community College aimed to bounce back as they hosted CBC to wrap up the series.

Sophomore pitcher Brendan McKinley took the mound in game one and delivered a stellar performance, nearly going the distance. McKinley tossed 8 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out five. Nolan Soderstrom came in to record the final out, securing the victory.

BBCC's offense came alive, collecting 11 hits and seven runs. Tyler Langer led the charge, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk and an RBI, while Oak Held contributed with two hits of his own. The Vikings' balanced attack proved effective, sealing a 7-4 victory in the series finale.

However, game two presented a different story. BBCC turned to sophomore pitcher Dylan Schaefer, who struggled early, giving up three earned runs on two hits while walking a batter and hitting another without recording an out. This put the Vikings in an immediate deficit. Talan Wright took over in relief, tossing four innings of one-run baseball with two strikeouts, before Brady Sprague and Garrison Garton combined for five innings, allowing three more runs.

With the pitching staff battling, the offense needed to respond but failed to do so. BBCC was unable to push across a single run, leading to an 8-0 defeat to close out the series.

Now standing at a critical juncture in conference play, BBCC prepares to face Blue Mountain Community College this upcoming Wednesday. The Vikings will look to regain momentum and avoid falling into a deeper hole in the standings.
