Big Bend baseball lost its first Northwest Athletic Conference contest yesterday when they split a doubleheader at home against Spokane.

Big Bend 15, Spokane 5

The Vikings (8-11, 5-1) exploded for 10 runs in the 6th and earned a 7-inning victory in Game 1 scoring 13 unanswered. BBCC racked-up 19 total hits led by leadoff hitter Tristen Garland's 4-for5 effort (double; 1 RBI) at the plate. Four other Viking hitters collected 3 hits each including Skyler Sadora (double; 2 RBIs), Christian Santillanes (2 RBIs), Tanner Toepke, and Samuel Fagerness (4 RBIs).

Pitcher Ryan Shipley had a good outing working 5 innings, striking out 3 hitters, giving up just 5 hits, and issuing 3 walks. Jordan Moreno and Tanner Van Lith each worked an inning of relief.

Big Bend 1, Spokane 11

Game 2 was another inning-shortened affair, this time it was Spokane who was on the winning end. Spokane took advantage of some Big Bend fielding woes to break open an otherwise close game in the 5th inning.

The Vikings took the lead 1-0 when Trevor Luckey drove in Christian Santillanes in the Bottom of the 2nd with an RBI-single and held that lead until an error to start 5th inning sparked and 8-run Spokane rally. Two more errors in the 6th inning and a passed ball led to 3 more runs and the final tally.

Big Bend starter Cameron Maciel threw 3 solid innings to start the game before being pulled in the early in the 5th.
