The Vikings softball team won three straight on Friday and Saturday and were riding high headed into their final game of the weekend but finished off the longest road stretch of the year on a sour note getting shutout for the first time this season. Big Bend was led this weekend by sophomore Taylor Ferguson who finished the weekend 9-of-11 at the plate, and freshman pitcher Bailey Christensen who had a hand in all three wins.
Friday, Game 1: BBCC 9, Blue Mountain 0 (5 innings)
Christensen only allowed one hit in the opener against Blue Mountain to the first batter of the game, and then shut down BMCC with a complete-game win recording 5 strikeouts.
Ferguson began her weekend tear going 3-for-3 at the plate with a stolen base, Bailey Nickelson (scored 2 runs), and Aubree Barney (double, 2 RBIs) each added two hits. Dacia Hobbs also added a 2-run homer in the winning effort.
Friday, Game 2: BBCC 14, Blue Mountain 5 (5 innings)
In the second game, Gabby Rodales, Christensen, and Barney through a combined 4-hitter while striking out 7 Blue Mountain batters in the win. The Vikings scored eight runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Ferguson continued her hot performance at the plate going 4-for-4, scoring two runs, driving in another, and stealing a base. Chance Barg went 3-for-3 (scored 3 runs, 2 RBIs), Nickelson went 2-for-4 (3 RBIs), and Lynsey Valverde and Savannah Hughes each added a pair of base hits.
Saturday, Game 1 BBCC 6, Treasure Valley 5
Things got exciting during the series-opener with Treasure Valley, with Hobbs playing the hero role and dropping a fifth-inning, 3-run bomb to put Big Bend for good. Hobbs would also add a double on the day finishing with 5 RBIs. Nickelson contributed with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate and scored 2 runs and drove in another.
Saturday, Game 2 Treasure Valley 9, BBCC 0
Come Saturday evening, the Big Bend bats ran out hits. The Vikings managed just two with those coming from Valverde and Ferguson.
The Vikings are currently sitting in fifth place in the NWAC East Region, three wins back of Treasure Valley. This week they will return to the Big Bend campus for the first time since April 8th to take on Yakima (May 4th) and Columbia Basin (May 5th).
